This is the Project Update for July, 2007. Jump to another update, using the links below.
WABI UMALAS will develop into an exclusive resort of nine villas with extensive facilities including reception, concierge, full F&B service, a café & bar and event facilities. The villas are set in the beautiful undulated terrain of Umalas surrounded by rice paddies, straddling a river and with mountain views to the north.
The size of WABI UMALAS will allow us to maintain services with friendly familiarity but is large enough to also enjoy efficiencies of scale not normally found in a stand-alone villa. Designed with easy indoor-outdoor entertaining, villas have an open plan kitchen-dining-lounge area, an AV room, external patio area with bale alongside a private fifteen meter pool, and an open-air upstairs lounge overlooking a roof pond. Each bedroom boasts en suite with both shower and bathtub which together enclose a lush private garden. WABI UMALAS brings together the best of villas and boutique hotels – giving the privacy and personality of a stand-alone villa but with outstanding service.
Etched into the slope of a hill, each villa is individually designed by London-trained Gfab architect Gary fell and captures a distinct outlook and personality created by the combination of its' building footprint and position on the land. Gfab is a practice which seeks to blur the distinctions between disciplines –architecture is seen as an extension of, and integral to, the landscape. In keeping with its vision Gfab's 25-member team will provide a complete service inclusive of furniture design, interior and landscape design.
After more than a year and a half of planning and fulfilling legal requirements, WABI UMALAS is excited to now be moving forward with the construction. We kindly ask your blessing for a successful completion of our exciting project.
