The Wabi is conceived from a desire to create a villa environment which distinguished itself architecturally as well as being attractive as an investment. Villas that are not only treasured by owners as a vacation home but also remembered and revisited by paying guests.
The location is one which allows us to access the spirit of rural Bali yet remaining close enough to enjoy the urban attractions of the Seminyak and Oberoi. The undulating terrain of Umalas not only allows glorious views of the surrounding rice fields and mountains to the north, but also shapes the very character of each villa into being something different from its neighbour.
Each villa is dug into the slope of the hill while the development as a whole follows the natural terrain almost seamlessly lending the development a harmonious and "natural" appearance. All the villas offer impressive views whilst maintaining their own privacy.
The walls of each property are constructed of Paras Kerobokan; the bedrock of the site and of the greater area. In the river at the foot of the site, it is possible to see the remnants of a small local quarry where such stone has been removed long ago. This cutting and carving of stone was the conceptual origin for our architectural proposition - that the entire complex has emerged from the very bedrock, rock layered in horizontal bands to manifest itself as geological strata - as if the development was something more primitive since treated to clean, contemporary interiors.
The size of Wabi allows it to maintain a boutique feel but be large enough to enjoy efficiencies of scale and provide services not normally found in a villa environment. From a commercial perspective, the configuration of Wabi has maximum attractiveness to the rental market. Each of the 22 bedrooms among its' nine villas is of the same character and configuration allowing large parties to be housed with a degree of uniformity. Each bedroom boasts an ensuite with both shower and bathtub - a characteristic sought by many higher-end guests. All villas boast private fifteen meter pools which is a rarity on the island due to escalating land prices now making plunge pools the norm.
The Wabi strives to bring together the best aspects of villas and boutique hotels, giving the privacy and personality of a stand-alone villa but with outstanding service. Each villa has a dining room, two living rooms and a pool deck, giving owners or paying clients the ability to entertain indoors and outdoors. Combine this with staffing and service levels typical of a small boutique hotel - concierge, reception and room service - and you start to have something really quite special.
The Wabi food and beverage concept is designed to appeal to all types of guests. For those who wish "full service", there are cooks and staff that will facilitate dinner parties in the privacy of your own villa. For those who prefer to do it themselves, each villa possesses a full kitchen and built-in barbeque. And lastly for those who can't quite decide, there is an extensive room service menu from the central kitchen.
In summary, Wabi is not only architecturally inspiring but also designed in such a way that it appeals to a broad cross-section of people - both owners and paying clients. Given its professional onsite and rental management, Wabi is positioned to exceed all expectations.
