VILLAS

Overall Description

Carved into the contours of the hill, each villa plot has a natural terracing in relation to the neighbouring plots. A meandering pathway, ramped and banked with dense planting and thick beds, interlocks the villas and accesses each at a different level according to the lie of the land. From the highest level of the site down to the lowest level beside the river, the land drops a total of ten meters, affording each villa its' complete privacy as well ensuring each has its own unique view.

Besides the outlook over paddies and river, the main visual elements are the rooftop water gardens and ponds which in effect "extend" the garden of each villa and make it seem larger than it actually is. No villa can overlook another; privacy and villa definition are achieved by a combination of level changes and greenery rather than by surrounding the villa with high walls. Using the elements of the land as architecture, villas blend contemporary interiors with a beauty that can only come from nature. Paras Kerobokan - the same local bedrock as quarried long ago from the river - is layered in horizontal bands resembling rock strata to form the villa walls giving an impression the villas are etched in the terrain, cut and carved from the riverstone.

Each villa offers a blend of outdoor living and air-conditioned comfort. Each has an infinity edge swimming pool bordered by a grassed area and stone deck furnished with sunbeds. Beside each pool will be a relaxation "bale" pavilion with a grass roof and storage space underneath.

The large open air living/dining/kitchen area seamlessly integrates indoors to outdoors creating an environment ideal for either entertaining or relaxing. The kitchen is sleek and minimalist, anchored by a monolithic granite bench that cantilevers over the deck. Equipped with easy entertaining in mind, a barbeque is located outside at the end of the bench. Each kitchen boasts a large stainless fridge-freezer, gas cooking rings, microwave and convenient laundry facilities.

The adjacent dining area looks onto the pool and garden. The table will comfortably seat the capacity of the villa and have room for extra guests for dinner parties. There is also a deep sofa in this area for relaxing and pre dinner cocktails.

This space leads through and down to a sunken, air-conditioned living room - with timber paneled walls, deep fitted sofas, plasma TV, and owner storage areas. The room has an added benefit in that it can be converted to become an extra bedroom. The sofa is designed to convert easily to a full-sized double bed while adjacent there is a guest bathroom with shower.

Upstairs, set into the water roof, is an open air living area - cool, modern and comfortable with a laid-back purity of design. Seated shoulder height is level with the surrounding pond. The upstairs living area is generally set with a northern aspect towards the mountains. A timber paneled trellis allows cool breezes to permeate without compromising the guests" privacy. The roof is a translucent tensile structure, providing ample shade yet creating a light, cool space within. The material casts a glowing light across the water of the ponds at night.

Each bedroom has an adjoining en suite which together wrap around to enclose a private garden. While the rooms do link directly, each can be accessed from this enclosed garden. Each bedroom will feature a double bed (separable into twins if required), a desk, television and ample wardrobe space. The ensuite bathroom is complete with walk-in shower and toilet, a large bath tub and twin vanity unit. The private garden houses an outdoor shower hidden among the tropical foliage.
